The Future of Australian Pharmacy Project

The PSA Board has identified the need to take stock of where we are now as a profession and to look towards the future, canvassing where the profession wants to go and identifying what we need to do to get there.  On behalf of its members and the broader profession, PSA has commenced a Future of Australian Pharmacy Project and has released an Issues Paper on the Future of Pharmacy as the initial step in this process.

Drawing upon the views of key opinion leaders in pharmacy and the broader health system and a thorough search of the literature, the Issues Paper identifies the emerging issues for pharmacy and is intended to stimulate debate regarding the challenges and opportunities facing Australian pharmacy.  It is the first step in a consultative process that is intended to provide the foundation for a profession-wide Future Directions Paper in 2011, which will articulate a vision for pharmacy in Australia and help to shape discussion around the future directions for the profession.

The key stages for the Future of Pharmacy project are as follows:

Stage 1: Issues Paper on the Future of Pharmacy released and available here

Stage 2: Engagement of entire pharmacy profession for consultation and feedback on the issues facing pharmacy

Stage 3: Development and release of an Options Paper for the Future for discussion at PAC10 on Thursday 28 October 2010

Stage 4: Agreement across the profession on the most appropriate options to be pursued

Stage 5: Development of a Future Directions Paper to shape the way ahead
